Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Endeavour Hills lawn

  • Which end are you at, the Lysterfield foothills or the flat toward Hallam? Say whether the lawn slopes and which way.
  • Most of Endeavour Hills was built between 1974 and 1991. Say if your lawn has been re-turfed since, and when.
  • Casey's FOGO bin is fortnightly. A second bin is $115 a year if clippings keep overflowing; otherwise ask for mulching.

Endeavour Hills lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Endeavour Hills?+

Expect $100-$145 a visit for a 180 m² Endeavour Hills lawn in our model. A sloping block in the foothills is quoted on the trimming as well as the area, and bids come off your lawn's measurement, not the suburb average.

Does Casey set a grass height for the nature strip?+

Not in centimetres. Casey says urban nature strips are council-owned but the property owner or occupier is responsible for managing and maintaining them. The council prunes the roadside trees itself, on a three-year cycle.

Are all Endeavour Hills lawns the same age?+

Mostly the same era. The estate opened in 1974, and the population went from 1,916 in 1976 to 23,938 in 1991, so most lawns went down in those years. Any re-turfed since is younger, and one laid in the last two summers is cut at 60-70 mm.

About Endeavour Hills

Before that it was farming and cattle country from the 1830s, and Thomas Herbert Power held land from the 1850s that ran from Power Road almost to Berwick and north to Heatherton Road. In the early 1970s the ground was open space: the Dandenong Police Paddocks, a scout reserve that hosted the 7th Scout Jamboree in 1964-65, Churchill Park golf club and Gleneagles golf course. Houses, shops and schools came from 1974. James Cook Primary opened in 1979, the drive-in shopping centre and library in 1980, the post office in 1983 and Thomas Mitchell Primary in 1991. The population was 1,916 in 1976 and 23,938 in 1991.

The suburb starts in the foothills of the Lysterfield ranges and descends through undulating land to level ground at Hallam, and the Monash Freeway reservation separates it from Doveton. So the 15.7 square kilometres are not one kind of block. A lawn at the top end and one at the Hallam end sit at different heights on that fall, and most of the housing between them went up after the estate opened in 1974. The listing should say which end the block is on and whether the lawn follows the slope.

The council is City of Casey. Its urban nature strips are council land that the property owner or occupier manages and maintains, and the council gives no grass height in centimetres. Roadside trees are inspected and pruned by the council on a three-year cycle. The green-lid 240 L FOGO bin for food and garden waste is emptied every two weeks and is part of the $468 standard residential waste package ($423 for the eco package); an extra FOGO bin is $115 a year.
