About Mulgrave
Mulgrave was a farming district for a century. The Oakleigh and Mulgrave Road District of 1857 became the Shire of Oakleigh in 1871, was renamed the Shire of Mulgrave in 1897 and became the City of Waverley in 1961. Only 223 people lived here in 1933. The suburb arrived in the 1970s: Brandon Park shopping centre and Waverley Park stadium in 1970, Wellington Primary and Mazenod College in 1968, Wellington High in 1972, the first section of the Mulgrave Freeway (now the Monash) in 1975 and Waverley Gardens shopping centre in 1977. By 2011 there were 17,647 people.
Dandenong Creek is the eastern edge, with the Bushy Park Wetlands on it where Napier's run was. The stadium car park at Waverley Park was later redeveloped as about 1,400 dwellings, so the suburb has one pocket of lawns much younger than the streets around it. Across 11.1 square kilometres that is the main thing a mower cannot tell from the address. A lawn from the 1970s build-out and one laid on the old stadium car park want different handling, and any turf laid within the last two summers wants a 60-70 mm cut.
