Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Rosebud lawn

  • The Avenues, inland Rosebud and Rosebud South over the freeway are three different jobs; the South rises toward the State Park.
  • Backing onto one of the three golf courses or the State Park edge? Say whether that boundary is fenced.
  • Banksia, tea tree and sheoak along the foreshore drop litter on the lawns behind them. Ask for a blow-down first if your lot is near the camping grounds.

Rosebud lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Rosebud?+

For 180 m² of lawn in Rosebud the model reads $100-$145 a visit. An Avenues lot from 1908 and a newer Rosebud South lot measure differently, and the bid is built on the aerial of yours.

Who mows the nature strip in Rosebud?+

The homeowner or the tenant, in the Shire's words: regular mowing, edging, weeding and litter. Only the street trees the Shire planted are its own, and landscaping or removing a tree on the strip needs a permit. Put the strip on your job and it is trimmed on the same visit.

My Rosebud lawn is near the foreshore. Does that change the cut?+

The camping grounds are lined with banksias, tea tree and sheoak, so leaf and bark on a lawn behind them mean a blow-down before the mow. If your lawn drains fast, ask for a higher cut in summer. Put your distance from the foreshore reserve on the listing.

About Rosebud

The schooner was stripped for house timber. Fishing and boat-building came next, with a school in 1884, a jetty in 1888 too short for the bay steamers, and a post office on 27 March 1889. Subdivision began at the beach: the Clacton-on-Sea estate of about 400 beach-front lots was promoted in 1908 at £2 a block and is the part called the Avenues today, and the Hindhope Estate had taken the former small farms west to Boneo Road by 1920. Two farm homesteads survive among the housing, one of them Hindhope Villa on First Avenue. During the 1950s inland Rosebud's rural setting fell to suburbanisation, with a kindergarten in 1953 and the high school in 1954.

The beaches are sandy and the water shallow. Foreshore camping ran for about 8 km from McCrae to Rosebud West by 1949, room for 5,000 people, and the camping grounds are lined with banksias, tea tree and sheoak. Eeling Creek runs as an underground drain between Tom Salt Park and the camping ground. The first stage of the freeway was built through in the 1970s as a bypass, and it divides Rosebud from Rosebud South, where subdivisions run up to the foot of Arthurs Seat State Park beside three golf courses; the Peninsula Sands Estate is the recent one. A lot in the Avenues and one on the slope in Rosebud South are different jobs, so say which you have.

Rosebud is Mornington Peninsula Shire, and the Shire offices have been here since 1976. Under the Shire's rule the homeowner or tenant mows and edges the strip, weeds it and picks up the litter, and touches nothing else without a permit; the street trees it planted are the Shire's own. Its food and green waste bin is a 240 L green lid, $178 a year in 2025-26, opt-in, urban area only, emptied every second week when the recycling stays home, 70 kg at most. The pier was rebuilt in 2015.
