Lawn mowing in Aberfeldie
Aberfeldie only became a suburb in 1998, cut from Moonee Ponds and Essendon, though the name goes back to James Robertson's property, sold in 1888 and called after Aberfeldy in Scotland. The Maribyrnong River makes the southern and western edge.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Aberfeldie lawn
- Measure the side path. A gate under 70 cm makes it a push-mower job.
- Under an old street tree, ask for the leaves blown off the strip before the cut.
- A back lawn that is reached through the house is fine; say so, and the mower brings a small machine.
Aberfeldie lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Aberfeldie?+
For Aberfeldie the model shows $110-$155, one visit, 180 m² of lawn, and a bungalow block may have less than that. The mower bids on the aerial reading of your lot, so a small back lawn comes in under the figure.
What does Moonee Valley expect of an Aberfeldie nature strip?+
Grass and weeds no higher than 200 mm off the ground, no long grass, no combustible material. The rule runs over the whole property including the strip, officers inspect before summer and the council can clear and charge. Planting on the strip is allowed without a permit under the Nature Strip Landscaping Guidelines; the tree on it stays council's.
How short should an old bungalow lawn be cut?+
Take off a third of the blade at most in any one pass, and bring a lawn left over winter down over two visits. A tree with a century behind it can shade a front lawn by mid-afternoon, so say which side gets the sun and the mower sets the height for it.
About Aberfeldie
The Maribyrnong Road tram came in 1906 and the bowling club in 1910. Essendon high school opened on Buckley Street in 1913, the post office in 1924 and the state primary in 1925. Walter Burley Griffin's municipal incinerator went up in Holmes Road in 1930. The Catholic primary opened in 1958; Ave Maria girls' college opened in 1963 and moved to the Clydebank mansion at 22 Vida Street in 1988. The housing runs from inter-war California bungalows to post-war dwellings, on 1.57 km² between Afton Street, Buckley Street, Waverley Street and the river. The listing wants three things: lawn at the front, the back or both, and how the mower gets between them.
Parks are the other thing here. A linear park follows the river, Aberfeldie Park was named in 1919 and Maribyrnong Park lies just outside the boundary. An inter-war bungalow block has had close to a century for its trees to grow; say what shades the front lawn and what drops on it in autumn. The side path on a lot of that age is often the narrowest part of the job, so measure it.
The nature strip in Aberfeldie is the owner's to keep, by Moonee Valley's local law, with grass and weeds kept below 200 mm and no long grass or combustible material anywhere on the property. Officers check before summer, and the council can clear an overgrown strip and bill the owner for it. Street trees are planted and pruned by council staff only. The green-lid FOGO bin takes garden and food waste together and is collected fortnightly, alternating with recycling.
