Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Attwood lawn

  • If your house was part of the building still under way in 2010, say how old the turf is; a new lawn is cut high until it has two summers behind it.
  • Mickleham Road is the spine. Give the estate street and the nearest turn-off so the mower is not hunting.
  • A slope down to Moonee Ponds Creek at the southern boundary changes the machine, and how steep it is changes the price.

Attwood lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Attwood?+

$100-$145 is what the model shows for 180 m² of Attwood lawn, per visit. Bids follow the area measured off your own block's aerial; a newer lot with lawn at the front only quotes under that.

Whose job is the Attwood nature strip?+

The resident's or owner's, under Hume's policy: mowing, edging, weeding and litter, on all sides of the block. Council reinstates soil and not turf when it has to make a strip safe, and it does the street-tree planting and removal itself. Include the strip when you list and one visit covers both.

Is a 2010s lawn mown differently from an older one?+

Only while it is new. Turf laid in the last two summers is kept at 60-70 mm so the roots get down before the heat; after that it goes to whatever height suits the grass. New or old, a cut takes no more than a third off the blade.

About Attwood

The police were here before the houses. The Victoria Police dog squad was installed in the late 1950s with a driver training track added, and the suburb still holds the police driver training track, the Dog Squad and the Mounted Branch, a government veterinary research laboratory, a community house and a caravan village. By 2010 nearly half the suburb was under development. Attwood was in the Shire of Bulla before it was in Hume. No school or shopping centre is recorded inside the boundary.

Lawns on a late-1990s subdivision are young by Melbourne standards, and some are younger still where the building was still going in 2010. Moonee Ponds Creek is the southern boundary, shared with Westmeadows, and linear parks run through; a state park lies to the east. The northern part sits under the Melbourne Airport flight paths. Tell the mower where the grass is, front, back or both, and how a mower gets between them, and say if the lot slopes toward the creek.

Hume's Residential Nature Strip Policy makes the strip outside your fence, on every side, yours to mow, edge, weed and keep clear of litter. Council only comes in to make a strip safe, and when it does it puts back soil, not turf. Street trees are council's to plant and remove; residents may not plant them. The policy carries no grass-height figure, only a 400 mm cap on planted vegetation for sight lines in the landscaping guidelines. The green-lid bin takes food scraps and garden waste, 140 L or 240 L, has been included in every household's waste charge from 1 July 2024 and is emptied fortnightly.
