Lawn mowing in Clayton South

Clayton South lies south of Centre Road, which the railway crosses at 45 degrees, between Springs and Westall Roads. It was coastal heathland under O'Shannessy's 1840s licence, then farms and market gardens, with swampy or unimproved land still there into the mid-1900s.

Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Clayton South lawn

  • On sandbelt ground, ask for a longer summer cut instead of a scalp if the lawn loses colour in a dry spell.
  • Near Spring Valley or the two nature reserves, say what the back boundary is and whether leaf and bark come over it.
  • The Kingston green bin is fortnightly, so say where the clippings should end up: the bin, the lawn or the trailer.

Clayton South lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Clayton South?+

Our model lands at $105-$150, visit by visit, for a 180 m² Clayton South lawn. The bid you get is for your own block, traced from the aerial, and a block with a back lawn as well as a front one can measure past 180 m².

Who mows the nature strip in Clayton South?+

The resident. Kingston makes mowing, watering and general maintenance the householder's, helps with hazards, prunes the trees every second year, but leaves the mowing to you unless the strip is dangerous. Put the strip in the listing too and it gets cut on the same trip.

Why is my Clayton South back lawn always wet?+

Possibly the old ground. Swampy or unimproved land lasted here into the mid-1900s, while the suburb as a whole sits in the sandbelt, which drains fast. Say which you have in the listing; a soft lawn is cut a day or two after rain, not in it.

About Clayton South

The suburb sits in the Melbourne Sandbelt, the sand country from Huntingdale to Dingley Village, and sand extraction left two large landfill sites. Clayton South Primary opened in 1929 for the farming community. Houses and factories arrived together from the late 1950s: the Volkswagen assembly plant beside Westall station, later Nissan and now Clayton Business Park, with cable-making and a bakery nearby, then rapid growth through the 1960s and 1970s. Westall Primary opened in 1961 and Westall Secondary College in 1963. The Forest Hill Golf Club bought former heathland in 1948 for the Spring Valley course; Clarinda split off in the late 1990s.

Sandbelt ground drains fast, and swampy or unimproved land was still here into the mid-1900s, so say which yours is like after a wet week. Namatjira Park, The Grange Reserve, Heatherton Park and Keeley Park are the parks, with two nature reserves near the golf course. Westall Road runs north-south over a large rail bridge, and Clayton and Westall stations serve the suburb. Population went from 10,902 in 2001 to 13,381 in 2021; say if your lawn is newer than the house.

The council is Kingston. Mowing, watering and general upkeep of the strip fall to the resident; the council assists with hazards, prunes the strip trees every second year, and leaves the mowing alone unless a strip has turned hazardous. A planting on the strip is limited to 0.5 m high and half a metre off the kerb. Garden clippings can go in the green-lid bin, a standard service here, emptied fortnightly on garbage day in the week recycling stays in.
