Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Springvale lawn
- Greater Dandenong recommends strip grass no higher than 100 mm. List the strip with the lawn so it is cut in the same visit.
- The green bin is emptied every two weeks here, not weekly. If it is already full, say whether the clippings can be mulched back in.
- A 1960s block may have sixty years of trees on it. Say what shade the lawn gets and whether leaf drop is a problem.

About Springvale
A primary school opened in 1867, the Gippsland railway had a Spring Vale Road stopping place from 1879 and a station office in 1887, and land was subdivided from 1886 once the suburban fare zone was extended out this far. Sandown Park racecourse opened in 1891 and was rebuilt as Sandown in 1961. Kelly and Lewis arrived in 1922 and Rocla in 1924. The Shire of Springvale and Noble Park was formed in 1955 and was a city by 1961. The 1960s did the building: the city's population went from 28,526 in 1961 to 58,374 in 1971. Greater Dandenong absorbed it in December 1994.
The springs are the point of the name, though it may also come from a place near the Bog of Allen in the hotelier's native Ireland. Springvale is 11.2 square kilometres with Sandown on it, and the older civic pieces carry their dates: the mechanics' institute from 1914, the picture theatre from 1924. The housing growth came in the 1960s, when the city's population doubled, so a lawn from that decade has had sixty summers on it. Say what soil yours sits on when you list, and what stands over it.
Greater Dandenong's rules apply. Residents maintain the nature strip regularly and the council recommends grass no higher than 100 mm; it mows or waters only where there is a public-safety risk, and an unsightly property gets a compliance notice, after which the council can do the work at the owner's cost. Street trees, about 55,000 across the city, are pruned by the council on a two-year cycle. The green-lid 240 L food and garden organics bin is fortnightly, with food scraps in it since 5 April 2021; the garden component is $121 a year.
