About Mount Waverley
The early-1950s block is a generous one: a front lawn to the street, a nature strip, a driveway down one side and a back yard that was built for a Hills hoist and a game of cricket. Many of the originals have been replaced by larger houses that fill more of the block, and some by townhouses, but the lawn pattern - front, strip, back - holds across most of the suburb. Glen Alvie Estate still has its original concrete streets.
The soil is the east's loam and the ground rolls toward the two creeks, with Valley Reserve's wetlands and Damper Creek the green edges. Couch and kikuyu on the sunny blocks, buffalo under the mature trees. The High Street Road reservoir is the high point at around 140 metres, and the streets off it slope.
City of Monash owns the nature strip and the owner or occupier keeps it maintained; an overgrown strip can be reported with a photo and the council's teams investigate. Anything planted on it stays under 50 cm and leaves 1.4 m of footpath clear. The 240 L green-lid bin for food and garden waste goes out weekly.
