Lawn mowing in Springvale South
Springvale South sits between Springvale and Keysborough, next to Clayton South, Dingley Village and Noble Park. Its sandy soil suited poultry farming, a green wedge still runs between Dingley Village and Heatherton Road, and the land was subdivided for housing in the 1960s and 1970s.

Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Springvale South lawn
- Sandy ground: ask for the cut set high in summer so the lawn holds colour, and never scalped.
- Greater Dandenong recommends the strip at 100 mm or under; tick it in the listing and the mower cuts it with the lawn.
- A fortnightly green bin may not have room for a spring cut; the clippings can leave with the mower or be mulched in instead.
Springvale South lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Springvale South?+
Around $100-$145, mow by mow, is what our model gives a 180 m² Springvale South lawn. A block with a large rear lawn measures above that, a unit's front patch below, and the mowers bid on your block's aerial measurement.
Is there a grass-height rule for the nature strip in Springvale South?+
A recommendation: Greater Dandenong asks for strip grass at 100 mm or less and requires residents to maintain it regularly. The council steps in only over a public-safety risk, and after a compliance notice it can do the mowing at the owner's cost.
Does a Springvale South lawn need more water than most?+
On sandy soil, often yes, but cutting height does more than the hose. Leave the lawn longer through summer, take a third at a time at most, and let the mower know if part of the block sits low and holds water; the sand is a district note, not a survey of your yard.
About Springvale South
The post office opened on 4 November 1926, and the suburb counted 181 people in 1933 and 628 in 1947. Subdivision for housing ran through the 1960s and 70s, and the schools track the estates: Heatherhill primary in 1958 and high in 1966, Springvale South and Southvale primaries in 1971, the technical school in 1974, Coomoora primary and Springvale South high in 1976, Spring Valley primary in 1977. The shops grew beyond a general store in 1963, the year Burden Park at the corner of Heatherton and Springvale Roads gained its bowling club, two years after the croquet club. Springvale Plaza is a drive-in centre on Heatherton Road, with a second centre on Springvale Road.
Sandy soil is what is written about the ground here. Sand drains quickly, so if the lawn loses its colour after a few dry days ask for the cut left longer in summer, and say whether it comes back fast after rain, because that is when a fortnightly bin fills. Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve is the named bushland. Where a block backs onto the reserve or the green wedge, say so in the listing, and say if the back boundary is fenced or open; a lawn that sits low and holds water is worth a line too.
Greater Dandenong's rule is regular maintenance of the strip by the resident, with the grass recommended at 100 mm or under; council crews mow or water a strip themselves only if public safety is at risk, and a property judged unsightly gets a compliance notice, then the work done at the owner's cost. A street tree is not the resident's to plant, prune or remove. Food scraps have gone in the 240 L green-lid organics bin since 5 April 2021; it is collected fortnightly, the garden service is $121 a year, and a second garden bin adds $121 and a $55.50 supply fee.
