Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Brookfield lawn

  • Name the estate, Brookfield Estates, Madison Gardens, Botanica Springs or Silverdale, and the year the house was finished.
  • On the Djerriwarrh Creek side, tell the mower whether the block slopes and how far the lawn runs down.
  • New turf: ask for the clippings taken away rather than dropped on grass that is still knitting.

Brookfield lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Brookfield?+

For Brookfield the model's line reads $100-$145, on 180 m² of lawn, each visit. The bid itself is built on your block's aerial measurement; an original block with lawn front and rear can measure above that, a new estate back lawn below it.

Do I have to mow the strip in Brookfield?+

Yes. Melton's local law has the resident maintaining the nature strip abutting their property, from regular mowing and weeding to levelling the surface so it is not a trip hazard, and the council neither mows nor waters it.

Is my Brookfield lawn new turf or established?+

Depends on the estate. Brookfield Estates lawns date from the 1980s and 1990s and are long established. Madison Gardens, Botanica Springs and Silverdale are later, and a lawn put down there less than two summers ago is still rooting and wants the 60-70 mm cut.

About Brookfield

Oliver Hume Real Estate's Brookfield Estates ran from the early 1980s into the 1990s, during the Melton area's rapid expansion, and the suburb took the estate's name, which may have come from Arnold Creek and the nearby waterways with their linear parks. Madison Gardens, Botanica Springs and Silverdale came later. The population was 3,168 in 2006, 6,104 in 2011 and 10,782 at the 2021 census, so most of the growth has come since 2006. Retirement villages and a childcare centre are here; the shopping is at Woodgrove in Melton West.

That growth curve is what a mower needs to know. An original 1980s Brookfield Estates lawn has forty summers in the ground and mows like an old lawn, edges and all. Turf put down on one of the later estates within the past two years is still rooting into the basalt and alluvial plain, cut high, with a third of the leaf the ceiling for any one cut. The creek and the linear parks add a third case, a block that falls toward the water. Give the estate name and the year the house was finished.

Brookfield is City of Melton, which leaves the strip entirely to the resident: mow it, weed it, pick up the litter, top up the soil and keep it level. Melton mows no strips and waters none, expects a landscaping application before anything other than grass is planted, and will not repair damage from vehicles parked on it. The green-lid FOGO bin accepts grass clippings, goes out in the week the recycling stays home, every second week, and is covered by the rates.
