Before you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Kurunjang lawn

  • An old lawn on a creek block may fall toward the water and stay wet at the bottom; both are worth a mention.
  • Cycle-path blocks on Little Blind Creek or Toolern Creek: say whether the rear fence is solid or open to the reserve.
  • The green bin is fortnightly. A 1980s lawn in October can fill it in one cut, so decide where the rest goes.

Kurunjang lawn mowing questions

How much does lawn mowing cost in Kurunjang?+

The Kurunjang figure for 180 m² of lawn, $100-$145, covers one cut. The bid you get is on your own block's measured area; a block with grass front and back can run past 180 m², and a spring catch-up on a thick old lawn is priced as a first cut.

Is the nature strip council-mowed in Kurunjang?+

No. Melton puts the strip on the resident: regular mowing, weeding, picking up litter, a top-up of soil and levelling out, and no council mowing or watering. Put the strip on the same listing and the mower cuts both.

What does red ground mean for a Kurunjang lawn?+

The name describes the plain's soil, and on it a lawn from the 1980s is long established: thick by mid-spring, slow in winter, and better cut regularly than caught up. Only turf younger than two summers needs the high cut.

About Kurunjang

Mowbray College opened in 1983 and closed in 2012, its site taken by Heathdale Christian College; Kurunjang Secondary College followed in 1986 and Kurunjang Primary in 1989. Little Blind Creek and Toolern Creek both flow through the suburb, each with a linear park and a cycle path. Kurunjang Recreation Reserve in the south holds the Satellite City Soccer Club and six tennis courts, next to the athletics track and the hockey ground; Pennyroyal Park is in the north-west, Little Blind Creek Reserve in the south-east, an equestrian centre in the far north. The count went from 6,728 in 2006 to 10,711 in 2021. The suburb has a corner store; the shops are in Melton.

Red ground is the name and the ground, the same basaltic plain as the rest of the district. Lawns laid in the 1980s and 1990s have thirty or forty summers under them and mow like established lawns, thick in October and slow in winter. A block on one of the two creek parks may slope toward the water and take longer to dry after rain. The oval and tennis courts at Dalray Crescent are still only planned; if your turf is under two summers old, say so, because it is mown higher, at 60-70 mm.

Kurunjang is Melton council. The strip outside a property is the resident's: mow, weed, top up, level, keep the litter off. Melton neither mows nor waters there and requires a landscaping application before anything but grass goes on it, and a strip that cars have parked on and rutted stays that way. The green-lid FOGO bin takes the clippings at no added charge, out every fortnight opposite the recycling week.
