About Cobblebank
The suburb was cut from Melton South on 9 February 2017 and is planned as a Metropolitan Activity Centre for up to 160,000 people over the decades ahead. The pieces are arriving: the Western BACE business hub on Ferris Road in 2015, Cobblebank Stadium at Bridge Road and Ferris Road, Cobblebank Village with its supermarket, a railway station opened on 1 December 2019, 34.39 km from Southern Cross, and Melton Hospital due to open in 2026 at 245-267 Ferris Road. Melton Entertainment Park, the harness-racing track of 2009, is in the north. Aboriginal artefacts have been found on the land.
Toolern Creek is the western boundary, and its reserve has been public land since 1881, gazetted about one chain wide from the banks. Toolern Park, 100 ha on Bridge Road, athletics track and sports field included, is shared with Strathtulloh to the south. Everything between is farmland turned to instant turf since late 2011, so a lawn here could be fourteen years old or one season old; say which. The younger ones, anything under two summers, stay up at 60-70 mm and give up a third of their leaf at a time, never more. The 2021 census counted 3,601 people.
