Claim a founding seatBefore you list: three things worth telling a mower about a Thornhill Park lawn
- Beside the retarding basin, say whether the lawn drains or holds water after winter rain.
- Turf under two years in the ground is cut high. Give the month it went down.
- Side access on a new block is a paved path, gravel, or the driveway only; the listing should say which.
Thornhill Park lawn mowing questions
How much does lawn mowing cost in Thornhill Park?+
Thornhill Park's medium-lawn number is $100-$145, and 180 m² is the lawn behind it. Estate back lawns often measure less than that, and the bid is priced on your block's aerial measurement, not the suburb figure.
Whose job is the nature strip in Thornhill Park?+
Yours, under Melton's local law: keep it mown and weeded, clear the litter, top up soil that has sunk and level the surface. The council mows and waters none of it, and ruts from parking on it are not reinstated.
My lawn backs onto the Thornhill Park wetland. Anything to tell the mower?+
Say if there is a fence on that boundary and whether the lawn holds water after rain. The wetland is a flood retarding basin run by Melbourne Water, and a low back lawn near it that stays soft into spring changes the machine a mower brings.
About Thornhill Park
The retarding basin is a flood-mitigation wetland, lately given a fitness area, viewing platforms and boardwalks and planted with over 190,000 plants. The schools are Thornhill Park Primary School, St Padre Pio Catholic Primary School and Eden Academy, with a Montessori early learning centre and several kindergartens. The census of 2021 found 3,066 people, on ground that was the Rockbank stone-strewn volcanic plain before the earthworks.
A lawn here is estate turf, and turf less than two summers old has not finished rooting into the plain. Until then the deck stays up around 60 to 70 mm, and no cut takes past about a third of the blade. A block beside the wetland is worth a line about drainage in winter. Thornhill Park is Melton council: the resident mows, weeds and levels the strip and picks up the litter on it, Melton mows and waters no strips, and a landscaping application comes before any planting other than grass. FOGO here is a green-lid bin, fortnightly, alternating with recycling, and part of the standard rates.
